Travel to a major city and getting lost on purpose just to see if I can actually find my way back to my hotel. Then, travel to a major city where they don't speak english and purposely get lost and try to find my way back to my hotel. Then lastly, travel to a major city where they don't speak english nor write in roman characters and purposely get lost and try to find my way back to my hotel. How's that for a hobby?

i know joss stone but haven't heard of lily allen (is that bad?*^^*), i'll check her out!
i can relate to that, i also love travelling alone. it does have its lonely moments, but on the other hand you really get a feel for the place you're in, and i think you notice more. and true enough, i think it's near impossible to have a bad travelling experience in japan...
my people are from tokyo and osaka, so i guess i'm an osa-kyoite? i love both cities equally, both very different. osaka atmosphere is more laid-back, tokyo's more cutting edge...
mm, it's true okinawans are a people apart, and they like it that way. don't know if you know this, but they weren't a part of japan until after meiji. it's definitely a whole different feel out there (i've only been to taketomi though, but would love to check out ishigaki), almost like going abroad if you're coming from japan. so i can understand it if the okinawans in the US want to make that distinction. it is tropical, as you say. but i guess for you, coming from hawaii, it won't be too much of a shock to the system^^.
oh and about あおい とり、you asked if i was enjoying it. it's a tad OTT, as romantic dramas tend to be, but i'm just lapping it up really^^. the fact that the leading star is DDG helps as well...*drools/faints*
no, haven't been there yet. a friend of mine went horseback riding there last summer, she loved it. your pictures are great! though i have to say, i wouldn't be going there in winter. i love snow, but only in theory. i usually travel south rather than north...how about okinawa? ^ -
yeah, brazilian grooves are cool. bebel's not particularly accepted in her home country though, they feel she makes music for foreigners. i guess i can see their point, brazil has moved on from bossanova. but that doesn't mean it's not good...
hah, thanks. i try^^. though to be honest, i know next to nothing of recent music. i'm not sure why, but there's been less and less music in my life of late. so i keep recycling my old cds...what's new out there that you like, for example?
yeah, there are worse addictions, right?^^ no, i haven't watched it yet, forgot! but i'll check it out after this one, it's next on my list.
you went to hokkaido? it's supposed to be great. did you know people there, or just decided to go check it out..? and yeah, it's cool when you get to see something for real you saw on tv, isn't it? don't know why, but it does something...
thanks^^. i just put a few of my favourite songs on there...yes, that is bebel gilberto. the song always makes me smile, nice and gentle...
Are boards expensive? If I lived as near as you do by the beach I'd invest in one, too.
Anna D & I were at Bora last year & we had a ripping good time but yeah, if you go frequently it prolly does get a little old since there's not much there other than partying. I do like the water in Puerto better than Bora. They say that Puerto is a lot like Bora though during the peak season so be warned ^^ We went there right before peak so it was still pretty quiet. I haven't been to Palawan yet but I've heard so much about it.
If you want a list of good beaches you should check out Nina's traveling site over at Justwandering.org, she writes really good reviews.
Oh, if you feel like doing a spot of surfing here there are a couple of places to go. The only one I've been to is La Union. I can't say if it's a good place to surf but there were a lot of surfers, both locals and foreigners.
You surf? Doubly awesome! I tried that once & I spent most of my time resurfacing XD Fun though. I like the sea but have this underlying fear of something coming up from under & biting the crap out of me. *_*
And there were only around 170 shots, buster! lol. That was in Puerto Galera, over in Mindoro. It's only five (or so) hours away from Manila. You should come visit!
